10 Foods To Make Your Sex Life Even Better

I was sitting at the bar with a girlfriend and mentioned how yummy a platter of Hog Island oysters would taste with my martini. “Ugh,” she groaned. “I can’t stand oysters. None for me!”

Ten minutes later, a rather handsome gentleman sitting further down the bar pushed a plate of oysters toward me. “I’m Jim,” he said, capitalizing on my craving. I was hooked.

Fresh, raw oysters are a true delicacy. If you’ve ever opened them yourself, you know that they can be stubborn. But once open, what a reward! Sometimes salty, sometimes creamy, they’re always a delight in the mouth and each one is unique.

And they are supposed to be an aphrodisiac. I totally get it – you have to admit, that they sort of look like a yoni. Yep, a guy who enjoys his oysters gets a thumbs up in my book.

Why are oysters so great when it comes to sex? Well, this food contains nutrients necessary for basic sexual function, ones that are missing from refined foods. Many other natural foods contains similar nutrients, so I compiled a list of 10 foods that are bound to help turn up the heat, in or out of the bedroom:

Oysters

Turns out, oysters are one of the best sources for zinc. This is crucial for reproductive health – low zinc translates to low sex drive and sometime even impotence for men.

Sharing a plate of oysters with your lover is certainly more of a sensual experience and more appealing than popping a little blue pill, no?

Chocolate

So what’s a poor guy to do who really just can’t stomach the raw oysters? Well, it’s time to develop a taste for chocolate, which also contains a lot of zinc. While there is the rare woman that doesn’t enjoy chocolate, most of us know that chocolate can instantly create a state of bliss. We’re just starting to get the men on board.

To get the passion going with your lover, how about slowly savoring a piece of dark chocolate, sip on a glass of cabernet and get a little tongue action involved? Besides zinc, chocolate is an excellent source of magnesium, which is a natural muscle relaxer (but doesn’t relax all the muscles, if you know what I’m saying).

When women are low in magnesium, they tend to experience more menstrual cramps, and crave more chocolate. Aside from magnesium, chocolate contains theobromine, which boosts serotonin, that feel good chemical in the brain.

Asparagus

Sure, it’s phallic-shaped in nature. But asparagus is also a diuretic which can excite the urinary passages. Plus, it contains quite a bit of aspartic acid, which neutralizes ammonia is our bodies that can make us sexually disinterested, turning the juice up instead. It’s also chock full of potassium, phosphorus, and calcium, all necessary to keep that energy up and moving.

Almonds

A symbol of fertility, the almond’s kernel is used in some cultures to cure premature ejaculation, and the aroma is linked to women’s arousal. Is that why there are so many almond-scented massage oils?

Almonds are another choice if oysters don’t work, since they are also high in zinc. Soft, sensual skin can be a by-product of these nuts too, since they contain vitamin E, selenium, and copper.

Avocados

Hmm, another food that looks like a body part, but this time part of the man’s equipment. Avocados also provide vitamin B6, good for testosterone production, and potassium, an important part of thyroid – and sexual – function.

Gives guacamole a whole new meaning, huh?

Bananas

Yep, this one could certainly be added in-between two avocados to complete the male nether region. Besides being chock full of potassium, which they are known for, bananas also contain the enzyme bromelain, which is believed to both increase libido and reverse impotence (a double positive whammy).

Plus, there is certainly more than one way to use this food to heighten a sexual experience. Oh, yes.

Basil

Get that circulation going with this tasty herb that can be a part of a romantic Italian dinner ala pesto linguine or chicken. Basil is also said to stimulate sex drive and boost fertility. A little tibit on its scent: according to the Energies for Life website, “basil oil was once employed by Mediterranean prostitutes as a perfume to attract customers.”

Interesting…

Figs

The plumpness of a fresh fig may be intoxicating enough in itself. But beyond this, figs are ripe (ha) with amino acids which are purported to help increase libido. And the juiciness of a fig isn’t so bad either, except things can get a bit sticky.

Honey

Well, there’s certainly a variety of options when it comes to using honey to spice up the sex life. Honey has long been associated with love and sex, dating back to the Kama Sutra. It also contains vitamin E and zinc, which we’ve seen is necessary for enough vroom in a man’s system.

It is worth mentioning the list of avoids: high fructose corn syrup and canned foods lined with BPA contribute to impotence as can more than a few alcoholic beverages. But as a lustful woman, what’s been even more important to me for a satisfying sex life with my partner is the eating style and intentions present when we prepare and share meals.

Being able to share the sensual experience of eating is part of building intimacy for me. I had a really
hard time dating a vegetarian. It just felt wrong for me to be savoring a juicy, bloody steak while he was
picking at his tempeh.

I’ve also been involved with a man blessed with unstoppable six pack abs who completely managed to turn me off because of his need to eat fast food while watching television. Over the years, I’ve also noticed that the guys that tend to rush through their meals aren’t necessarily into foreplay.

Of course, eating a whole foods nutrient rich diet is going to provide your body with better functionality. But when is the last time you prepared a meal with your lover? When is the last time you used your fingers to feed one another? When is the last time you reveled in your partners moans of delight at the dinner table?

Food for thought.
