No matter how many dates you’ve been on, you always seem to struggle over what to wear on a first date. Remember that the first thing your date will notice is your appearance, not your beautiful personality or your heart of gold, so you’ll need to make a conscious effort to look your best. In order to make a great first impression, you’ll need to keep these ground rules in mind when choosing the perfect outfit.

Rules for Dressing on Your First Date:

1. Dress for the occasion – Keep in mind what the venue is when deciding what to wear. If you’re going on a casual coffee date, don’t wear a ballroom gown. Similarly, if you’re going to a 5-star restaurant, you don’t want to wear your gym getup. It’s important to dress accordingly and fit in wherever you go. You don’t want to make your date feel uncomfortable by being overdressed or underdressed.

2. Dress comfortably – Comfort is everything! If your outfit is too tight or too loose and you’re constantly adjusting, then your focus will be on your clothes rather than your date. When you’re comfortable in what you’re wearing, you exude confidence and that’s attractive! Also, make sure that your clothing reflects you and your personal style.

3. Don’t go overboard with fashion trends – While you may want to wear the latest zebra-print fur coat because an A-list celebrity wore it during Fashion Week, if it doesn’t suit you it’s best to stay away from it. Your date will probably not be able to appreciate your artistic expression if your fashion sense is too extreme. You’d be better off saving your new trendsetting outfit to test out when you’re with your friends.

4. Avoid revealing clothing – You don’t want to distract your date from what you have to say, so it’s best to skip the extremely low cut, V-neck blouse and skin-tight mini skirt. You can still achieve desirability and sexiness without bearing it all. A little mystery keeps the mind active!

5. Don’t wear too much makeup – Again, you don’t want to distract your date by applying your entire makeup collection on your face. Makeup should enhance your appearance, not totally mask it; therefore, you should aim for the more natural-looking makeup.
